Tilesheds is registered with Ofsted to provide care and accommodation for up to 2 children with emotional and/or behavioural difficulties, although the home is sought after as a solo placement and it is this for which Tilesheds specialises in.
Tilesheds is located in the stunning Northumberland scenery right on the eastern edge of Northumberland national park, although rural the home is certainly not cut off from the world, the nearest village is Rothbury at 8 miles away with the usual amenities and a small sports centre. Alnwick is our closest town which is a 25minute drive. Howard House school is located in Bedlington and that takes approximately 45 minutes by car.
Tilesheds uses its unique location and experience of the staff team to deliver activities as vehicles for experience, meeting the young peoples holistic needs is a strength of the home. As such a big feature of any placement is to raise self esteem, sense of worth and belonging.
The young people are encouraged to take part and earn awards from both the John Muir award and the National Navigation Award scheme as part of informal outdoor education based on theories of FLOW LEARNING.
Tilesheds is a no smoking home and we have good links with local nurses who have had good success in supporting young people to quit smoking.
